One Free 8×10 from Wal-Mart!

I was in Wal-Mart this evening at the 1-hour photo printing area to print one special 8×10 that I had planned for the longest time. A manager came to the print area to work on an unrelated customer problem. It is my understanding that he told the cashier to give it to me free after he noticed the image. The picture was a portrait of President Reagan speaking in Minneapolis in 1982.

Important Organizing Discovery – File System

Over the years I have accumulated this particular physical category of items that I had a strong desire to get organized, but I always hesitated to tackle the task because I knew I may run into trouble with organizing it. Taking on this task turned out to be an excellent experience in organizing because I discovered a significant new scheme in organizing. I would not have made this discovery if I did not go through this experience. I am not sure that I can describe this as a breakthrough, even though that sure does sound appealing. It is though a significant organizing change and improvement that I made. The neatest thing about this discovery is that I have been able to port the concept to my computer file system, and maybe even to other types.

Are you ready? Do you want to know what the discovery is?!!

I have separated types into Personal and Non-Personal. I use the word ‘types’ because this scheme can be applied to almost anything that has the potential to be sorted/categorized this way. This scheme may seem trivial to you, but it is such a huge improvement. It would be even more meaningful to go through the above described experience, and to see the satisfaction in accomplishing an organizing task.  Applying this also leads to follow-on benefits that you will later start to see, like for instance back-ups. It should be a no-brainer that backing up Personal computer documents has a higher priority than backing up Non-Personal computer documents. Personal pictures might be backed up to a space that is different from a back-up space for Non-Personal pictures. It is not just documents that this can apply to!

Here is a screen shot of my computer files illustrating the concept:

Documents - Personal and Non-Personal

Documents – Personal and Non-Personal

The same applies to Videos. In all, this concept has been applied to Documents, Pictures, and Videos:

What’s your favorite food? Sandwiches!

I have always noticed this, but I have never declared it official. This was always something that I wondered about not knowing if I am correct on it and not evening having documented supporting evidence to support my claim, but I think I can now declare this official, and I will list documentary supporting evidence to back up my claim. My Favorite Food Item Is Sandwiches!!!!

Now how can this be? When I was growing up, I don’t think I ever ate a Sandwich for dinner because my mom always had cooked food for me, I believe. I also never had a clue that Sandwiches could possibly be a favorite food item. It’s only later in my adult life that I have reached this conclusion. So how can this be? But first, let me review childhood sandwiches. All I remember is Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches! I would take them to school, and I think I ate them when there was nothing else to eat! I just realized something – just now. I have not eaten a peanut butter and jelly Sandwich in years in my adult life! Why! How? I thought Sandwiches were my favorite food?! Well, I am now adding a new task to my task list! Oh noo, not another task. This one is okay. 🙂

I think one of the first clues I experienced that Sandwiches are my favorite food is the similarity between the restaurants that I frequent. My favorite eating places are Panera Bread, Corner Bakery, Schlotsky’s, Quiznos, and Subway. What dawned on me was that these are all Sandwich places! It’s only after years of frequenting these stores that I noticed this observation. Even when I go to full service restaurants I tend to lean towards some form of Sandwich. By the way, I prefer fast casual dining instead of full service restaurants, which sounds like a separate topic.

When you get a sandwich, they are just pleasant to look at. They come in different forms, shapes, and sizes. They can have different and various ingredients. They can be warm or cold, exotic or simple.

My favorite characteristics of Sandwiches:

  • Inexpensive
  • Perfect meal size
  • Non-fattening
  • Transportable
  • Discreet – eat anywhere
  • Small size
  • Does not smell
  • Does not make a mess
  • No refrigeration needed if eaten the same day
  • Easy to make at home
  • Easy to pack
  • Convenient
  • Fast
  • Healthy
  • Nutritious

Sandwiches are a neat, simple, convenient food item. I am not sure what I would do without them!
